SERF Parts was founded from a simple observation: the semiconductor shortages of the early 2020s exposed how dependent modern industry had become on fragile global supply chains and production capacity located outside the United States. At the same time, demand for faster, more capable electronics was colliding with another major challenge—power consumption.
Semiconductor Electronics and Radio Frequency Parts LLC began by acquiring and repairing defunct laboratory, RF, and electronic test equipment to useful service. That work served two purposes: preserving valuable technical equipment that might otherwise have been discarded while building the capital, tools, and hands-on capability needed to pursue a larger goal.
SERF also supports federal and Department of Defense supply needs by sourcing and procuring electronic, RF, electrical, test, laboratory, and related components and equipment for government customers. This includes identifying compliant sources, evaluating technical requirements, obtaining parts from qualified manufacturers and distributors, and supporting the packaging, delivery, and documentation requirements associated with government contracts. This procurement work provides a practical near-term business foundation while strengthening SERF’s supplier relationships, technical knowledge, and understanding of domestic defense and industrial supply chains.
Today, SERF is taking the next step.
Our focus is the development of next-generation two-dimensional semiconductor technologies based on materials such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) and tungsten diselenide (WSe₂). These materials offer the potential for extremely thin transistor channels, reduced power consumption, higher device density, and new architectures that may extend semiconductor performance beyond the practical limits of conventional silicon.
A central part of SERF's mission is domestic semiconductor independence. Much of the current semiconductor supply chain remains dependent on materials, processing, manufacturing capacity, and markets outside the United States. SERF's long-term goal is to build a fully domestic development and manufacturing pathway for MoS₂- and WSe₂-based devices, reducing reliance on foreign sources wherever possible—from raw and precursor materials through fabrication, testing, and production.
SERF is working toward establishing the capability to develop, fabricate, and ultimately manufacture advanced 2D semiconductor devices in the United States, with an emphasis on practical experimentation, domestic sourcing, energy efficiency, and scalable production.
What began with restoring overlooked laboratory equipment is evolving into an effort to help build the next generation of American semiconductor technology.
